Inspired by photographs by Neil Slater, used with permission.The eye of the squid fascinated me, as it looked so intelligent and refracted light in so many shapes and colours. The translucent spotted skin and hood over the eye was beautiful. The rich colouring of the squid was a challenge to my usual palette, I had a lot of fun painting it. With changing light it can look dark and brooding or almost fluorescent.
